We are using the Veterinary Database for our final project, which is being done in three different parts.

PART ONE

Build the database, using the information provided and adding tables and information as follows:

Your database should include the following tables:

OWNERS INFORMATION

PET INFORMATION

PERSONNEL

SUPPLIES

PROCEDURES

The SUPPLIES TABLE and the PROCEDURES TABLE will not have a primary key, because there is nothing unique in them that needs to be noted. But they will need a foreign key to associate them with tables they will need to pull information from.

For the tables that need a primary key, please let Access do the primary key function for you.

There are duplicate records for owners – an owner having more than one pet, for example. How would you eliminate this redundancy in normalizing the database? Please incorporate your answer into this assignment.

Your submission for this first stage of the final project should include:

– An Access database with the 5 tables mentioned above

– Data entered into each table – NO LESS THAN 5 RECORDS

– Tables must be related to one another

PART TWO

Scrub all the data in your database by amending or removing any data that is incorrect, incomplete, improperly formatted, or duplicated.

Normalize your data to 2^nd normal form.

Determine whether or not you have enough data in your database to help the owner of the practice make good business decisions.

Find three (3) outside data sources that could contribute to ongoing data analysis and to your goal of helping the practice maximize profits. List your resources – a hyperlink to them would do nicely.

What additional data would you add to your database to help achieve the maximizing of profits, and why would you include it?

Your submission for the second stage of the final project should include:

Submit your database in its entirety, showing the results of the data scrubbing and data normalization you’ve done.

List the three (3) outside data sources you found that will help the practice maximize profits.

PART THREE

Analyze your data.

Based on your analysis, create three (3) reports for the practice, using data already included in the Veterinary Practice Database.

1. Decide what three (3) reports should be run monthly to help the veterinarian better run the practice.
2. What the reports show is up to you, as the designer of the database, but each report should be useful to the veterinarian and his staff.
3. Create all three reports, saving each one with a name representative of its content
4. Run each report, and make a screen shot of the results of each report after it’s run, to submit for this assignment

Create a parameters query that will allow staff to search by the name of the pet owner

Write a brief report to management, noting the changes you think should be made in order for the practice to be more profitable. Include the recommended change, why you think each change should be implemented, and the time frame in which you think implementation should occur. You may use the reports you created for the practice as an analytical tool to aid you in this regard.

Your submission for the third and final stage of the final project should include:

Submit the entire database, which should include the results of all three stages of this assignment.

Submit your report to management as a Word document.

Put your entire submission in a compressed file folder, and attach the folder on D2L.
