Hacking the Humanities 2019 LUCDH
Week 9 Assignment (3p) Due date: 18 November 2019, 13:00 CET
Write a Python script that tests the performance of the NLTK Sentiment Analysis tool VADER. On the Blackboard you will find a directory called Reviews which contains 10 IMDB film reviews – 5 positive and 5 negative.1 From the title of each file, you will be able to see if the review is positive or negative about the movie in question. Your task is to:
1. run each of the files through VADER (*Tip: you can use os Python module to iterate through all the files: os.listdir())
2. print a list that contains 3 columns: name of a file, if a review is positive or negative and a compound score from VADER
3. calculate and print accuracy of a classification achieved by the VADER
Submit your Python file.
1The data is part of the much bigger polarity dataset V2.0 that contains 2000 reviews and it is downloaded from http://www.cs.cornell.edu/people/pabo/movie-review-data/.
