PROJECT 3:
Creating Compositions with Code
OVERVIEW:
IxD: Bachelor of Interaction Design
VDES19798 Design Fundamentals 1: Visual Language
Revsied: 2018
In the world of digital media, the new visual language is driven by code. In this project students will program in Processing to generate their own code to produce their designs. The core programming concepts in this course will offer a platform for exploration in other courses in the program.
The objective of this project is for you to get familiar with the Processing coding language and explore how the concepts you have learned in course can be translated into code.
THE CHALLENGE:
Using only Processing, you will create a static composition and output it as a PDF.
You will be programming in Processing and generate a final PDF as well submitting your working code from Processing.
There is no specific theme or prompt for this composition, but you should build upon the knowledge you have gained in this course about design elements and principles, theories of perception (Gestalt and Semiotics), visual layout and composition, communicating emotional and narrative content.
You may explore embedding SVG files or images to help create your final composition, however you may not create your rendering in another program and just load it as an image as your final concept. You must use code to augment what you are importing.
Each week you will be learning core concepts with Processing code. You must provide a minimum of two Processing sketches per week as part of your developmentthis will make up your process work.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR FINAL SUBMISSION:
Work in Processing to prepare the final PDF document
The format for your sketches (Processing canvas) should be
horizontal, W1220px x H800px
Provide all your sketches with your exploration of code and one
final output to PDF of your final rendering, including process work (code examples, annotated screen shots, etc.), and include a design statement in your PDF submission
Files must be submitted using the folder structure demonstrated in class and named using the following convention (your first initial and your last name and the version number of the file) e.g. mlastname_01.pde
