You are required to design a feedforward-feedback control system to maintain the temperature in an exothermic chemical reactor. The dynamics of the system are described in the Simulink model file Assign2.slx. Cooling water flowrate is in units of L/s and temperatures are in K. Units of time are seconds.
The feedback controller uses the flowrate of cooling water to regulate the reactor temperature. The feedforward controller measures changes in the cooling water temperature and attempts to correct for this disturbance before it upsets the reactor temperature.
Answer the following questions:
(1) Use the direct synthesis method to design a feedback controller that will achieve first order plus time delay set-point tracking with a time constant of 30 s. Simulate the controller response in Simulink to a set-point change and a disturbance in cooling water temperature. [40 %]
(2) Design a static feedforward controller to correct for disturbances in cooling water temperature.

(3) Design a dynamic feedforward controller to correct for disturbances in cooling water temperature. Simulate the feedforward controller response to a 4 K step increase in cooling water temperature and compare it to the static feedforward controller response. [20 %]
(4) Suggest controller algorithms to use in a feedforward-feedback control system. Simulate the control system response to 2 K increases in the set-point and the cooling water temperature. Include with your answer a labelled Simulink block diagram.
