The Exams Office has created a separate site for this exam. Access to the home page for the exam site should be available to students a week before the exam. Please read carefully the instructions that will appear on the home page of the exam site.
If you have a clash with another exam, you should contact the economics enquiries office at the following email address:

They will advise you on which exam to take and on arrangements for taking a later replacement exam if needed. If you are in this situation, you do not need to apply for Special Consideration.
Coverage of topics
The exam will cover the teaching materials (lectures and readings) from the first 5 weeks of the course.
The tutorial exercises will give you a good idea of the sorts of questions that can be asked and the level of difficulty. No other sample or practice questions will be provided ahead of the exam.
You will need an electronic calculator to do some simple calculations for some of the questions. (You don’t need a specialist financial calculator.)
Exam format
There are 10 questions.
1 – 6: multiple choice. Choose one answer for each question. (1 mark each, for a total of 6)
7 – 8: multi-part calculations. Enter answers in the spaces provided. (4 marks each, making a total of 8)
9 – 10: extended responses. Type your answers in the spaces provided (suggested length, 100 words per question). (3 marks each, for a total of 6)
Total marks available: 20
Academic integrity
This is an individual exam. Students should not be working in groups or sharing answers. I am confident that most students will respect the integrity of the process and will not contemplate cheating in this way.
To reinforce this, the exam site provides a clear statement of your academic integrity responsibilities and will require you to complete an integrity contract before taking the exam.
Open book exam
The exam is open book. This means you are permitted to refer to the course teaching materials (lectures, tutorials and readings). The Canvas exam site states as follows:
This is an open-book test with no supervision. Open-book tests do not permit the use of third party communication or collaboration apps or websites. Access to any such app or website is strictly prohibited during your test and is a serious academic integrity breach.
Technical difficulties
The home page of the exam site provides instructions on what to do and who to contact if you encounter any technical difficulties during the exam.It states the following:
